Amazon is expected to announce their new Kindle Fire 2 at a Santa Monica press conference today , Sept. 6.
Many reports suggest that Amazon will unveil not just one, but two versions of the Kindle Fire 2. Also, a whole new line of products will be introduced, including a new Kindle Touch with illuminating display.
The latest rumor is that Amazon will also unveil a new Android smartphone as well. The smartphone will compete with Google Android phones and Apple's upcoming iPhone 5. The Verge reported that It will run on a variant of the Kindle Fire's Android-based operating system.
The Verge reported:
"The phone itself is said to be currently unfinished, so if Amazon does announce it we wouldn't expect too many details. But at this point we would expect it to run a forked version of Android 4.0 as the leaked Kindle Fires seem to do, and to include Nokia Maps as the location solution - forking Android means Amazon can't use Google Maps, and Nokia spoke today of adding a 'major' mapping partner at its own Windows Phone event."
Gather Technology reported that pre-order details will likely be revealed today by Jeff Bezos, or another top executive from Amazon.
Amazon recently hinted at the new Kindle Fire 2 in an advert that was aired in the U.S. during the Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants game that revealed "something new."
Tech Radar reported, "That something new looks to be a 10-inch model of the Kindle Fire (Kindle Fire 2 perhaps) and another Kindle, which looks suspiciously like the Paperwhite Kindle that was leaked earlier in the week.
The Fire may come in 7-inches and 10-inches. One tablet will be supported by advertising to reduce the cost, according to an unconfirmed report in the Wall Street Journal.
ZDNet reported that according to Reuters, "Amazon.com Inc's new Kindle Fire will have mapping services via a tie-up with Nokia Oyj ... filling a gap in the tablet's capabilities while snubbing Google Inc's popular service."
Amazon is also expected to announce a new Kindle Touch with an illuminating display to rival with Barnes & Noble's launch of the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight.
Leaked photos of the new device were recently revealed by The Verge.
The photos show the Kindle with a "Paperwhite" backlit display.
WebProNews reported that on the Sept. 6 event, other rumors suggest that the company will be announcing an entirely new Kindle line with updated hardware from everything from the Kindle Touch to the classic original Kindle.
Amazon recently announced that its Kindle Touch is out of stock, according to Gather Technology, which just over a week until the new Fire is expected to be unleashed.
The Kindle Fire 2 is expected to have a new processor, new display touch screen technology and new build, as well as a new mobile operating system with Amazon's custom build that will not support Google's Play Store and other Google products and services.
The new Kindle will have a 1280 x 800 resolution, different than the current 1024 x 600 display. This will make it sharper and more vibrant. It will be thinner and lighter than the original.
