A week before the company's official announcement and nearly every detail for Motorola's next big Android handset has surfaced already.
Check out the leaked photos and specs here.
In a rather unceremonious leak, Engadget obtained the specs and images for the Droid Razr (Maxx) successor. If you were expecting the handset to feature HD somewhere in the title, you'll be a little disappointed. The same goes for those hoping for something simple, like the Droid Razr 2. Instead, prepare yourself for the Motorola Droid Razr M 4G LTE.
The device looks quite similar to the original DROID RAZR revealed several months ago and out on the market with Verizon right this minute. As anticipated, Motorola's flagship smartphone will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and feature a dual-core 1.5GHz MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor. Coupled with 8GB internal storage, a microSD card port that'll potentially hold a 32GB card, and 1GB RAM, the phone is well equipped to keep pace with other top devices. The combination 8-megapixel (1080p HD video) rear and 3-megapixel front-facing camera ought offer more than enough heft for taking pictures. Rounding out the specs, the Droid Razr M 4G LTE comes with NFC, GSM / UMTS / HSPA+ global roaming, microSD expansion, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
We learn why this model isn't called the Droid Razr HD when we turn to the display. The display on this device appears to be quite similar to what we've just seen on the Motorola Photon Q, a device which certainly does have some sharp and bright magic to it. Much like the Atrix HD and the Photon the display works with a virtual set of home menu keys. This is likely the influence of Google owning the company now, making with the Galaxy Nexus influence. As the leaked specs tell us, the phone packs a 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540 pixel) Super AMOLED Advanced display with Gorilla Glass 2, as well as a Kevlar-reinforced back and a set of virtual navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen. Engadget suggests the handset may feature the same ColorBoost panel technology found in Sprint's recent Photon Q. While this display will be among the best on the market, it's not the 720p HD quality that fans may have hoped for.
This smartphone will follow in the footsteps of the rather light and thin DROID Razr, here having a weight of 4.44 ounces and ending up being just a BIT thicker overall. Now, the real question is this - will this be the one and only smart device revealed by Motorola next month at their special event in New York? Or will there also be a device called the Droid Razr HD?
Specs such as battery, price, and even the phone's launch date still have yet to be announced. But we should learn all of that at Motorola's September 5 press event in New York, which vaguely describes itself as, "Motorola. On Display." Nokia, and Microsoft will hold press conerences the same morning in New York.
