Robert Pattinson Embarrassed, Jokes, Avoiding Kristen Stewart (Video)

Since breaking up with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson has been weathering a constant storm of publicity surrounding the former couple's relationship. After running the press gauntlet recently as he promoted his new film, "Cosmopolis," and stepping out in public with his fly down, it's clear Pattinson desperately needs a publicist.

During an appearance on Aug. 15 at a New York Times Talks session, New York Times journalist David Carr compared Pattinson's relationship with Stewart to Prince Charles and Princess Diana's marital problems.

"So if you and Kristen have trouble it's like Charles and Di having trouble?" Carr asked.

Pattinson picked at his water bottle silently before stammering, "Well, uh, Charles."

His recent appearances haven't been quite as awkward.

The 26-year-old even joked and poked a little fun at himself taking part in some break-up ice cream therapy with Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show" last week. Stewart said he identified with Pattinson, and after the media frenzy over Kristen Stewart's tryst with her married "Snow White and the Huntsman" director.

"My biggest problem in life is, I'm cheap and I didn't hire a publicist," Pattionson said in his first interview since the photos of Stewart and Rupert Sanders surfaced last month.

After those comments, big-name firms like 42 West and Sunshine Sachs are battling it out for the chance to represent the actor, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Pattinson's manager has reportedly been hit with a large volume of phone calls and e-mails from companies requesting meetings with the 26-year-old. But despite publicly acknowledging his lack of representation, Pattinson has no desire to hire a publicist just yet.

"He's actually doing really well on his own," a source told the site.

The "Twilight" star has been recently out promoting his latest film. But he always seems to clam up when hit with any Stewart-related questions during interviews.

Earlier this summer, the British actor was named to Forbes' Highest-Paid Actors list, pulling in an estimated $26.5 million dollars in a year for his work on films including "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" and "Water for Elephants." So you'd think the heartthrob would have a fleet of luxury vehicles at his disposal, one fancier than the next. Guess again.

Last night, Pattinson appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and revealed that he recently purchased a car for $2,500 off Craigslist: a Chevy Silverado pickup truck over a decade old. "I got a 2001 Silverado. It's beautiful. Solid car," Pattinson said, noting, "I buy everything off Craigslist - every single car that I've bought."

This particular purchase was made three months ago and brought Pattinson out to Chino Hills, California, a random spot in the suburbs of Los Angeles. The seller, who didn't recognize the world-famous star, "was this guy who lived with his parents," Pattinson recounted. "We were talking about gas prices, going, 'I know man. It's crazy.'" The wealthy movie star, who described himself as "incredibly cheap," went on to detail the negotiation process with the seller. "He didn't really understand the concept of negotiating," he laughed. "I [talked him down] 300 bucks and his comeback was, 'What about 50 bucks more?'"

Pattinson also shared another story about the first car he purchased in California following the success of the original "Twilight" film. "The first car I ever bought was $1,000," he said of another Craigslist buy. "I thought I negotiated it myself, but I just got reminded that I had just moved to L.A. and I turned up with my agent and my manager literally to negotiate the price of a $1,000 car."

The actor previously spoke with Yahoo! about that set of wheels - a 1989 BMW - that has since gone to the great car lot in the sky. "It's beautiful," he said last fall. "It's an old BMW. It's a minor classic that cost $1,000." However, it "blew up," he said. "I still have it. It's just blown up."

Pattinson's Wednesday night chat session with Kimmel avoided any mention of Stewart. He did, however, make it clear that he's no longer living with her in the $4 million home they once shared in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Los Feliz. When Kimmel noted that the last time Pattison was on the show he had referred to himself as "homeless," Pattinson shot back, "I still am," and joked that he had been living in a "garbage can."
