Chuck Norris is getting rave reviews for his performance in "The Expendables 2."
The new film, which was released in theaters Aug. 17, stars Sylvester Stallone, Liam Hemsworth, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Norris.
"The Expendables 2" is about Mr. Church (Willis) reunites the Expendables for what should be an easy paycheck, but when one of their men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat, according to IMDb. The movie is directed by Simon West.
Norris, 72, hasn't been in any recent movies lately, but he was welcomed back with this hit movie, along with other stars that haven't showed their face lately in the game.
According to WebProNews, "Although Norris hasn't been in the spotlight in recent years as often as his onscreen cohorts, he is being welcomed back with open arms by those who have seen the film as the one man in the group who can pull off poking fun at himself without seeming cheesy. He's in on the joke, just like everyone else, but he manages to find the comedy in it a tad better than, say, Schwarzenegger, who's done that 'I'll be back' bit a few too many times."
The New York Times painted Norris as the star who came in to offer some well-needed comedy in the film that didn't work out previously.
"Until Mr. Norris shows up, the script's efforts at sly comedy don't work all that well, relying on obvious inside jokes and references to the various stars' previous work," the New York Times wrote. "Mr. Norris's character, Booker (also the name of his character in the 1978 film 'Good Guys Wear Black'), works those same angles but is somehow much funnier. From his arrival until the film works its way to the inevitable mega-confrontation in which the bad guys shoot with stunning inaccuracy, and the good guys don't, the movie is pleasantly dumb fun if you watch it with the right mind-set.
"Mr. Norris arrives just as the blood baths and leaden dialogue are beginning to grow tedious, and his deadpan self-parody is pretty darn funny. More important, it gives you permission to laugh at the rest of this mindless movie, which is the only way to choke it down."
Willis and Schwarzenegger return to the film after starring in the first one, "Expendables," in 2010. Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Li, and Terry Crews also come back to star. Van Damme and "The Hunger Games" star Hemsworth are newcomers, as well as Norris and actress Yu Nan.
Norris recently did an interview with USA Today at "The Expendables 2" premiere, saying that he works out regularly to stay fit and healthy.
"I work out on the Total Gym. I've been working on that for 35 years," Norris said. "I've found as you get older, when you go with the free weights, it puts a lot of stress on your joints. And I do a lot of swimming. And a lot of bag work. [After a literal nudge from his wife] And a happy family. That's important."
In an interview with WND, Norris was asked how can he being doing action movies at 72-years-old.
"Because I'm 39 years old with 33 years of experience."
Way to go, Chuck Norris.
