He couldn't stay buried forever. "Twilight: Breaking Dawn" star Robert Pattinson has decided to get back in the spotlight following his very public breakup with "Twilight" co-star Kristin Stewart.
"This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry," Stewart told People after incriminating photos of herself and her "Snow White and the Huntsmen" director Rupert Sanders were released.
Avoiding cameras since learning last month of his now ex-girlfriend's indiscretions with the married film director, the 26-year-old actor appeared on Monday night's episode of "The Daily Show" with John Stewart to dutifully promote his new movie, the David Cronenburg drama, "Cosmopolis."
Work obligations often force celebrities out of hiding after embarrassing personal situations, but choosing how and where to make a comeback is often a carefully calculated move. Not in Pattinson's case.
As the star chatted with Stewart over pints of Ben & Jerry's -- Karamel Sutra for Pattinson and Cherry Garcia for Stewart - he revealed that he's never had a publicist, and has always made those decisions for himself. That of course left the burden of dealing with the media on his shoulders. Maybe if he had a publicist, Pattinson would have had a response for Stewart's public mea culpa.
"We're just a couple of gals talkin'," Stewart said. "The last time I had a bad break-up, Ben and Jerry got me through the tough times."
Although Pattinson indulged in Stewart's peace offering, it wasn't without a bit of hesitation.
"I'm trying to avoid eating this, I'm going to split my Spanx," said a straight-faced Pattinson who, indeed, had to squeeze into a steel blue suit for his Monday evening "Cosmopolis" premiere at New York's Museum of Modern Art.
Pattinson is set to appear on "Good Morning America" on Wednesday.
