Jennifer Aniston is now engaged to her boyfriend, writer and actor Justin Theroux.

According to People magazine and US Weekly, the couple have been dating more than a year and Theroux proposed when he was celebrating his 41st birthday on Friday.

"Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage," his rep told PEOPLE exclusively.

The pair, who costarred in the movie "Wanderlust," embarked on a romantic European vacation, stopping in Capri where they spent their nights at an expensive hotel and sunbathed their toned torsos on the deck of the Liberty of Lymington boat, according to Us magazine.

The entire getaway was dreamed up by Aniston, says a Theroux insider, "to take Justin to some of her favorite places." They began their sojourn in Paris on June 10, following by a few days in Rome. Last week Theroux visited his love on the Wilmington, NC set of her latest flick, "We're the Millers."

According to US Weekly's timeline of their relationship, the couple met in 2007 on the set of "Tropic Thunder." Then they reconnected while shooting "Wanderlust" in 2010. They reported they weren't dating then, but in June 2011 they took their romance public at an MYV Movie Awards afterparty in Los Angeles.

"Lots of sexual tension," one witness said. "She [has] never seemed happier."

Aniston then started introducing Theroux as her boyfriend and they started living together in her place. They spend Thanksgiving together, and in December 2011 Aniston's dad gave her boyfriend his seal of approval.

"He's a charming young man," John told Us. "I think they make a wonderful couple."

"He makes her feel safe and secure when she's with him," a source told Us of the pair in June 2012, who were spotted dining a deux at one of Paris' most expensive restaurants, Stressa. "A lot of her insecurities melt away."

US magazine reported that this is the first marriage for Theroux and the second for Aniston, who married Brad Pitt in July 2000; they separated in January 2005 and got divorced in October the same year.

There is no news on the wedding date.
