Lionsgate added another actress to play a role in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."
Lionsgate and the filmmakers of "The Hunger Games" announced on Monday that Maria Howell will play the role of Seeder in the second film adaption "Catching Fire," based on bestselling author Suzanne Collins' novel.
According to the press release, Howell is an Atlanta, Georgia based actress, singer, and voiceover artist best known as the choir soloist from the movie "The Color Purple." She has also appeared on television in "Army Wives," "Drop Dead Diva," "The Vampire Diaries," "Meet The Browns," "House Of Payne," and many other TV show, as well as in the acclaimed film "The Blind Side."
Seeder is the female tribute from District 11 in the 75th Hunger Games, also known as the Quarter Quell. She was also a victor from a previous, unmentioned Hunger Games.
According to "The Hunger Games" Wiki, Katniss Everdeen describes Seeder:
"The woman, Seeder, looks almost like she could be from the Seam, with her olive skin and straight black hair streaked with silver. Only her golden brown eyes mark her as from another district. She must be around sixty, but she still looks strong, and there's no sign she's turned to liquor or morphling or any form of chemical escape over the years."
Seeder's personality is very kind, polite, gentle, and a positive person all around. She embraced Katniss after the chariot rides through the Capitol and whispered in her ear that Thresh and Rue's families were safe, to give Katniss relief. She also strongly stated that the Quarter Quell was wrong and President Snow could stop it if he wanted to.
Lionsgate recently announced that E. Roger Mitchell will play the role of Chaff, the male tribute from District 11. Chaff lost his hand during the 45th Hunger Games, but he refused a prosthetic hand from the Capitol doctors. He is also a part of the rebellion and one of the only few who knew about the plan to get Katniss out of the arena.
Also recently announced was Alan Ritchson to play the role of Gloss from District 1, Lynn Cohen to play Mags from District 4, Amanda Plummer to play the role of Wiress from District 3, "Sucker Punch" actress Jena Malone to play Johanna Mason, a female victor from District 7, and Philip Seymour Hoffman to play Plutarch Heavensbee.
These actors will join Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne), Elizabeth Banks (Effie Trinket), Lenny Kravitz (Cinna), and Woody Harrelson (Haymitch).
"Catching Fire" is set to release in theaters Nov. 22, 2013.
