Nexus 7 Shipping; Google Adds New Features, including Instagram

Rave reviews and hungry customers are not the only things that Google's Nexus 7 is getting.

According to Christian Post Tech & Biz, the Nexus 7 tablet, built by Asus, just received its first over-the-air update, bumping its software build up to Android 4.1.1. (Jelly Bean).

The update is around 1MB and can be performed in a matter of seconds.

"This software update will upgrade your Nexus 7 to Android 4.1.1, JellyBean, which improves performance and responsiveness system wide," read Google's message on the update screen for the Nexus 7 tablet.

The update is also meant to improve Google Now speed for fetching information from the Internet.

Also in recent news, Instagram has updated its application Monday for the Android platform to support the Nexus 7 tablet, which runs on Android Jelly Bean software, according to Pop Herald.

"Despite lacking a back-facing camera, Google's new Nexus 7 Android tablet is still supported by Instagram thanks to its new Android app update," the website reported. "Now, Nexus 7 owners can use the tablet's front-facing camera to capture still images or just upload images from the tablet's storage and upload them to Instagram's servers."

As if that's not enough updating in one week, SlashGear announced that OnLive support has confirmed that the cloud-based gaming company is working on OnLive Universal Controller support for the Nexus 7, which is great news for gamers.

"Support for the OnLive and a real video game controller for the tablet would make mobile gaming much more enjoyable."

When SlashGear asked about the support, OnLive online support replied, "We don't have support out for it yet, but we hope to shortly." There is no specific date for Nexus 7 support offered."

Along with the U.S., Google confirmed that U.K. and Canadian pre-orders have begun shipping in waves July 17, according to Toms Hardware.

On Google's online store, GooglePlay, the 8GB model sells for $199 and are currently have a shipping time of one to two weeks after purchase, and it says "ship soon" on its website. The 16GB models sell for $249 and may take three to four weeks to ship.
