Google's Nexus 7 is becoming extremely popular among the tablet talk. Earlier reports said that the device would have been released as early as Thursday, July 12. Now that might not be true.
Demand is so high for the new tablet, and so popular, and Google is trying to keep everything under wraps as much as possible. There seems to be conflicting reports about the actual release date.
According to Jobs & Hire, Staples retailers said shipping for the Nexus 7 will begin between July 12 and 17, according to the retail product page. Also, customers who preorder the Nexus 7 by July 10 can expect a tablet within one to three business days, arriving no earlier than July 13.
According to Slash Gear, the tablets also have pre-orders set off for Office Depot, which also said that shipping will begin on July 12th or after.
The Nexus 7 has a 7-inch screen and is good competition with rival Apple iPad. According to Jobs & Hire, the device has powerful hardware and a useful design that will enhance the customer experience. It's a very convenient size considering its dimensions, and it provides the same features as bigger tablets bringing the web, email, games, and social media feeds to users' fingertips. The device also brings to life a 1280x 800 IPS touchscreen, comparable to the third generation iPad. It will come with Wi-Fi connection, Bluetooth, a camera, and GPS, and be thinner and lighter.
New reports say that Google has started shipping units of the highly anticipated Nexus 7 tablet, but retailers cannot start selling the device yet. According to gottabemobile.com, recent reports said that Google already asked two retailers to stop selling the Nexus 7 ahead of the official release date.
According to a report from The Verge, retailers Adorama, a store based out in New York, and Ebuyer both began selling the Nexus 7 today only to be admonished by Google. Ebuyer quickly switched the Nexus 7 back into pre-order mode and Adorama confirmed that Google requested that the site stop all sales of the tablet.
Also, multiple retailers who started selling said the tablet has sold out and that they are struggling to fill orders, according to Computer World.
GameStop has pulled the Nexus 7 tablet order page from its website, while Adorama and Staples said the tablet had sold out and that they were waiting for additional inventory. They also have already delivered some Nexus 7 stock to stores for buyers who opted to pick up the tablet in-store. A GameStop store in New York had one tablet waiting to be picked up, and a store representative wasn't sure when a second wave of Nexus 7 tablets would arrive, guessing it could take a few weeks.
Adorama posted a message on Twitter on Friday afternoon saying that the Nexus 7 had sold out and that it was shipping all the stock based on orders received.
Staples on its website said it ran out of Nexus 7 inventory and asked users to check in between July 14 to July 18 as "additional units may become available."
According to Computer World, Google is taking orders for a $199 Nexus 7 model with 8GB of storage and a $249 model with 16GB of storage, and promising one to two weeks for delivery. The retail stores are largely selling only the $249 model.
All hope is not lost. Gottabemobile.com said that Phandroid reported Gamestop stores have the Nexus 7 tablet in stock and are ready to sell Google's first Nexus tablet; they're just waiting on the official word from Google. This means retailers are ready to sell the popular device, which means that customers will be ready to buy it.
