"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" will be at San Diego Comic-Con 2012, and fans should expect a treat from the producer of "The Lord of the Rings" movies, Peter Jackson.
The LA Times Hero Complex did a recent interview with Jackson about what will take place during "The Hobbit" panel, which will take place at Comic-Con on Saturday, July 14, at 2:30 - 5:00 p.m. during a Warner Bros. Pictures presentation.
In April, at a preview in Las Vegas, reactions were divided about Jackson's new Tolkien footage; it was screened at 48 frames per second (the norm is 24 frames) and in the view of some the added clarity actually sapped the majesty out of Middle-earth and made it look more like an episode of "Masterpiece Theatre," according to LA Times. Now, fans will see something different.
"I decided to screen the 'Hobbit' reel at Comic-Con in 2-D and 24 frames per second, so the focus stays firmly with the content and not the technical stuff," Jackson told LA Times. "If people want 3-D and 48fps, that choice will be there for them in December."
"As slight as people think the "Hobbit" novel is, compared to the "Lord of the Rings" books, we have been surprised at how rich the world is and how many interesting themes and characters there are to explore," Jackson said. "This is not just 'The Hobbit' - it's 'The Hobbit' set in a much greater context of events taking place throughout Middle-earth during this period. The material is so rich."
At "The Hobbit" Comic-Con, there will be interviews with Marti n Freeman, who plays Bilbo Baggins, Ian McKellan (who plays Gandalf) and famous "Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson, according to Entertainment Weekly. There will also be previews of exclusive images and on-set scoops from the first movie, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," movie trailer news and sneak peeks.
The first poster for the highly anticipated first film came was released on Jackson's FB page on July 7.
"The scale of "The Hobbit" is larger, the anticipation is potentially greater, everything feels a little bit bigger," actor Elijah Wood told Reuters about the movie. "For so long, people didn't think there would be a 'Hobbit' film, so the fact that there is [a movie] finally, people have been anticipating this for a long time."
Based on the classic book, written by J.R.R. Tolkien, the films will be split into two movies. "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" arrives in theaters Dec. 14, 2012. The second film, "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" is slated for Dec. 13, 2013.
