Potterheads cried in sadness when "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" was released and the second movie inspired by the book rolled its credits. But for this news, fans will surely cry for joy knowing that the doors of the wizarding world of Harry will be laid open once more.
"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," which was first announced as a play, was officially confirmed as a follow-up to the seven series in the saga. It won't be a book though but a British stage production, as previously announced.
Though it may not be a novel, it is considered as the official eighth story in the "Harry Potter" saga, according to Slate. The story is set 19 years later, which is also the timeline the prologue written by Rowling was set.
"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" sees Harry as a father of two. It focuses majorly on his son Albus Severus, as confirmed by Rowling on Pottermore. Just last month, the novelist wished the young wizard, who was set a Gryffindor, good luck on his first day in Hogwarts.
Here is the synopsis for the new tale: "It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places."
Tech Times quotes Rowling as saying that the eighth story has an "epic nature," and so the London production will be divided into two parts. This allows viewers to watch the entire play or simply split it up in two.
Indeed, Potterheads thought that "Deathly Hallows" will be the last of Harry and so the creation of "Cursed Child" made them jump for joy. Explaining the conception of the tale, Rowling wrote via Pottermore:
"The story only exists because the right group of people came together with a brilliant idea about how to present Harry Potter on stage. I'm confident that when audiences see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child they will understand why we chose to tell this story in this way."
The "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" will star more than 30 actors and will be shown in summer 2016 at the Palace theater in London. The producers of this West end show said that the tickets will be on sale on Oct. 28 for June 2016 preview shows.
