A fictional tale of romance inspired by the real-life courtship and relationship of Prince William and Kate Middleton is hitting the silver screen. The Hollywood Reporter has word that "The Royal We," a book that reimagines the royal couple's love story, is being eyed for film.
The fairy-tale type story was written by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan, who many would know from comedy blog GoFugYourself.com. It follows Rebecca Porter who falls in love with Prince Nicholas, who happens to stay right down the hall of her room at Oxford.
Needless to say, Nick, as the prince is often addressed, falls head over heels for Rebecca aka Bex and the pair decided to be in a relationship, which entailed "unimaginable baggage" in the form of ex-girlfriends, frenzied tabloids and paparazzi.
Additional characters in "The Royal We" include Nick's "charming, troublesome" and not to mention, redheaded brother Freddie, and his mother who was once in the female lead character's position and Bex's high-spirited sister.
Lauren Graham and Mae Whitman from the long-running drama "Parenthood" will produce the film. The former, who the authors of the book said was "the best" in a blog post where they confirmed the news, will write the script.
The latter, on the other hand, could end up starring in it and Cocks and Morgan fangirled in the blog post about the actress. The duo are "beyond thrilled" about the project and reiterates how "thrilling just to be able to tell you that those two smart, talented women are even interested."
In an interview with People Magazine, Morgan once again praised Whitman and Graham, saying "Our book could not be in better hands." They also talked how the book connects to the real0life love story of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
"It truly isn't Wills and Kate," Cocks told People. "Yes, it was an idea borne of watching their seemingly courtship in the media, but through Bex's eyes we had the freedom we needed to imagine all the potential behind-the-scenes emotions and conflicts of that love story," the writer added.
Cocks and Morgan will have no say on the casting but they are excited to see Whitman play the part of Bex. There are no further details about casting just yet as well as the would-be helmer. A release date is yet to be locked in as well but what's sure is that the project is in intense development.
