The closing book for Stephen Kings' chilling crime trilogy will be released Jun. 7 next year. Titled "End of Watch," the 496-page volume follows the final escapade of retired police detective Bill Hodges. This time, he once again duels with the ever-persistent murderer Brady Hartsfield, who returns to bring a new round of unthinkable horror for his sleuthing nemesis.
In "End of Watch," the killer responsible for the spine-chilling Mercedes Massacre that killed eight people and left many horribly wounded, returns after being confined in the Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic. Hartsfield is far from recovery but he makes no consideration of his health condition just to execute the ultimate sinister scheme.
"According to his doctors, anything approaching a complete recovery is unlikely. But behind the drool and stare, Brady is awake, and in possession of deadly new powers that allow him to wreak unimaginable havoc without ever leaving his hospital room," a portion of the book description picked up by Youth Independent read.
Hodges, on the other hand, now leads an investigation agency with his partner, Holly Gibney. The duo is responsible for the brain injury Hartsfield incurred. But just when they thought his reign of terror is over, Hodges and Gibney find themselves in the middle of a case that is linked to the Mercedes Massacre. This could be "their most dangerous case yet."
Hartsfield's grand revenge scheme does not only involve the people that put him in the hospital but their loved ones too. In fact, the whole city is his target. Hodder & Stoughton UK editor Philippa Pride praises King via The Guardian for coming up with a "terrifying and poignant conclusion" to the crime trilogy, broaching the brilliant versatility of Stephen King's writing as he takes the detective novel [in] a sublimely powerful new direction."
Hodges' story started with the first book called "Mr. Mercedes," which is now being eyed by Sonar Entertainment as their latest TV show project. The second book just released last year is called "Finders Keepers."
"End of Watch" will be King's 55th novel. Fans who can't get enough of the author's brilliant written horrorfest can pick up his new book "The Bazaar of Bad Dreams," which collects 17 short stories (some published online and on magazines and some weren't published before). The book will be out Nov. 3.
Meanwhile, "End of Watch" will be published by Simon & Schuster on Jun. 7, 2016.
