Dec. 18 couldn't get any closer. Fans relentlessly await the release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which is the first film in the franchise in a decade. In addition to the return of the original trio Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia as well as the arrival of new characters, fans have a lot more to look forward to.
Indeed, after 10 long years, even a two-hour long movie won't contain every single story there is of the sprawling universe. This is why companion novels, art books and even visual dictionaries for the upcoming film will be made available on the same date the latest of the intergalactic blockbuster series hits the silver screen.
As announced by Lucasfilm on the official "Star Wars" website, the first one is called "The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Lucasfilm promises to have fans "step inside" their art departments for a comprehensive look and "unprecedented access" at how the breathtaking planets, unique creatures and dearly loved characters are made.
Lucasfilm will treat readers with a tour of the "earliest gathering of artists and production designers" at their headquarters in San Francisco all the way to the heat of the production in Pinewood Studios and even a good look at the post-production happening in Industrial Light & Magic.
For those who want to get complete knowledge of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," every character and creature in it and all the locations they step into as well as the technology featured in the film, Lucasfilm urges fans to pick up the visual dictionary, which will serve as their complete guide to the film. An "ultimate" sticker collection will also be for the taking.
Fans who want to know more about new characters Finn, Rey and Poe should grab the "Star Wars: Before the Awakening." Youngsters can pick up "Star Wars: Rey Meets BB-8" to be acquainted with the spherical droid running around with Rey. For quick adventure reads, there's the "5-Minute Star Wars Stories," which includes 11 tales with various characters and action-packed battles.
"Star Wars: Han & Chewie Return" and "Star Wars: Finn & Rey Escape" as well as "Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Lightsaber Rescue," "Star Wars: The Force Awakens Mix & Match" and the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Rey's Survival Guide" are all unique must-reads. All of these goodies will be out on Dec. 18 and a whole lot more will be announced.
In other related news, Latino Review acquired alleged trading cards for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," where it was revealed that Finn is a Rebel while Rey is both a Rebel and a Jedi.
