D23 Expo 2015 News: Disney's 'Moana' a Classic-In-The-Making? Movie Release Date, Cast & Plot Spoilers Here!

Special footages and exciting revelations have kept up the magic at the D23 Expo 2015. Upcoming movies are highlighted with cast members taking the stage, including Ellen DeGeneres and Dwayne Johnson.

This time, Dwayne isn't up for an action film involving wrestling or car racing. He is starring in Disney's new princess movie "Moana," ABC News reports.

"Moana" tells a story from about 2000 years ago. The spirited daughter of a tribe leader dreams of sailing out into the sea after her grandmother inspired her with a tale of Maui, a demigod. However, her father would not allow her dream voyage.

Being the spirited rebel girl, Moana sails to an island where she meets Maui, the tattooed demigod in the stories. Dwayne is giving life to Maui.

The report further reveals taking part in an animated Disney movie is a career dream for him. He also expressed his excitement for his role.

"It is my heritage, it is my culture. I am proudly half-Samoan and half-black. I'm so deeply connected to this movie," he said, as quoted in the same ABC article.

Ron Clements and John Musker, familiar names from classics "Aladdin" and "The Little Mermaid," are directing the film.

Tony winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, Te Vaka's Opetaia Foa'i and Grammy winner Mark Mancina are working together for the film's music.

Disney also revealed datails about other upcoming films, including "Finding Dory" and "Toy Story 4."

"Finding Dory" is the sequel to 2003 classic animated film, "Finding Nemo." The blue reef fish remembers she has a family and sets off to find them. However, she may have lost her way and Marlin and Nemo have to find her first.

"Toy Story 4" is the new addition to the "Toy Story" franchise. Of course, the story revolves around toys owned by Andy -- but things are taken to a new level.

In the third film, Andy is already a college boy and has had to say goodbye to his toys. In the upcoming sequel, the toy adventure would include a love story, according to BBC.

Other films include "Gigantic," a "Jack and the Beanstalk" spin-off; "Coco," which tells about the life of a young boy in Mexico; and "Zootopia," where Shakira will be involved in music and voicing.

This year, the D23 Expo is held on August 14-16, 2015 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. For those who may not know, the Expo was first held in 2009 by Disney D23, the offical fan club of The Walt Disney Company.

"Moana" hits theaters on Nov. 23, 2016.
