The 2003 film "Finding Nemo" captured hearts through an underwater adventure. Nemo, the only son of a protective clown fish, has been captured by a human diver.
Meanwhile, his father Marlin is willing to cross the entire ocean just to find him.
Marlin and Nemo's story reached a happy ending. But one character still has a story to tell. Most probably, she just can't remember.
Everyone knows Marlin did not find Nemo on his own. A blue reef fish with short-term memory loss helped him on his way. And this forgetful fish named Dory is starring on the new film, "Finding Dory."
After more than a decade, a lot has changed, specially to the comedian and actress who gave voice to Dory, Ellen DeGeneres.
In the "The Ellen DeGerenes Show," the comedian made several jokes about a sequel to "Finding Nemo".
"Finding Dory" deeply explores the character of Dory and where she came from. In the story, she's supposed to be looking for her family and the place where she grew up.
However, as the title implies, the forgetful fish may have lost her way somewhere in the vast ocean.
According to Wired, no one could be more excited for the film than Ellen herself. She stood at the stage at the D23 Expo 2015 in California to announce new characters for the film.
Here are new characters joining Dory in her search adventure, as reported by Time Magazine:
Hank
Hank is an octopus who is missing a tentacle, which makes him a "sectopus". He is voiced by Ed O'Neill from "Modern Family".
Bailey
Ty Burrell from, once again, "Modern Family" is giving life to Bailey, a beluga whale.
Destiny
Another member of the group is Destiny, a whale shark whose voice will come from Kaitlyn Olson of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia".
Time further reveals a plot spoiler which explains how Dory's search for her family becomes a story of finding her.
Apparently, Dory becomes separated from Marlin and Nemo during the search and finds herself in an ocean sanctuary facility, where she meets the sectopus, the beluga whale and the whale shark.
Andrew Stanton, writer and co-director of "Finding Nemo" and the upcoming sequel, revealed that the first movie originally did not have a sequel. However, things changed as the film ended.
"I wanted to know that if this charming forgetful fish ever got lost again, that she would be OK, that she would find her way home," Stanton told Wired.
"Finding Dory" hits theaters on June 17, 2016.
