"Fifty Shades of Grey" Merchandise in the Works

"Fifty Shades of Grey," the breakout S&M trilogy by E.L. James, is set to become a global brand. To date, the book has sold more than 13 million copies and has been optioned for a movie.  Now, there's word that it has become the fastest-selling paperback of all time.

So it comes as no surprise that the popularity of the book would be capitalized on through other merchandise.  The author of the trilogy has selected Caroline Mickler Ltd., a UK based company as the global licensing agent for "Fifty Shades Of Grey" merchandise.  The list of products slated to be developed are endless and include beauty products, lingerie, apparel, home furnishings, jewelry and more.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" is set in Seattle and tells the story of an erotic relationship between college student and an older billionaire. The book is seen as fan fiction and criticized by many for its lack of literary nuance. But for fans, it is a gripping, page-turner of a book.

In a statement Mickler said, "The market's interest in Fifty Shades of Grey as a brand is enormous. We expect this property to make a very strong showing."

E.L. James' agent Val Hoskins issued a statement, "I'm delighted that Caroline Mickler, a respected name in the licensing industry with such a strong track record across a wide range of diverse properties, will be taking Fifty Shades of Grey into the licensed market in the UK and helping us to develop the brand worldwide."
