Cameron Diaz wants to make teenage girls healthier. The actress who is usually typecast as a comedic actress doesn't see anything funny about our culture's obsession with weight and the negative consequences it's had on children, particularly girls. So the "What to Expect When You're Expecting," star is taking matters into her own hands and writing a nutrition advice book for teens.
Though Diaz has yet to secure a publishing deal, she has signed with a literary agent who is currently shopping the book around. But her wisdom will not be the only one gracing the pages of her upcoming book. Diaz has enlisted Hollywood pals such as Drew Berrymore, Gwenyth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez to share their insights on health. She will also be talking with top nutritionists.
E! News reports, "She wants to stop their fixation on being thin, and for teenage girls to understand that being healthy is more important. She knows she is a role model to girls and she really wants to use that position to do good. This book is not about weight, it's about making the right choices."
As part of the effort to get young people healthier, Diaz is planning to visit schools around the country. Her aim is to get them to understand that making the right food choices is the pathway for optimal health. She also plans to go a step further and help educate young people on the nutritional value of different foods so they can be equipped with the knowledge to make good life long decsions. She also wants to get schools to offer healthier meal options.
While the book is not about Diaz, she does plan on sharing some of her own journey with food so that her young readers can relate and understand how she came to the place of better knowledge about food.
