The adventures of "Xena: Warrior Princess" are far from over. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC and NBC Universal International are planning to work on a "modern reboot" for the "Hercules" spinoff, which starred Lucy Lawless as the titular character.
The publication says that the studios are in search of a writer that can work with them and executive producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi, the duo who took on the same role when the action-adventure drama series first popped up two decades ago.
There's no word what Lawless' role will be in the "Xena: Warrior Princess" reboot, although The Holywood Reporter received word that the actress will be part of the series on and off screen.
Just days go, Lawless brought up the idea and revealed during the San Diego Comic-Con how much she fought for having Xena back in action once again. Last Monday, she tweeted that the project is mere "wishful thinking" and that it is only just a rumor.
Sorry, friends! news of a #Xena reboot is just a rumor. I'd love it to happen one day but it's still in the wishful thinking stage.

"I've been pitching that show, actually ... there's a swell of interest still," she said to HitFlix. She added that so many "Xena: Warrior Princess" fans have are raring to see the dearly-loved fighter kick butt once again.
"I'm always being peppered with questions [about] when the Xena movie is coming. Guys, I'm pitching my ass off to make it happen, whether it's with me or not," Lawless explained, adding that a "middle-aged Xena in a muumuu with a bad attitude and a smoking habit" would be funny to see.
The Hollywood Reporter adds that the new generation Xena has to possess Lawless' charm and charisma, but she should also be as smart as Katniss from "The Hunger Games." In fact, the producers are now actively on the lookout for the actress to lead the "Xena: Warrior Princess" reboot.
As per Comic Book Resources, Xena first debuted back in 1995 in the episode of "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" titled "Unchained Hearts." She was originally planned to be written off, but instead, she ended up having her own show, where she fights evil and monsters alongside her trusty companion, Gabrielle (who was played by Renee O'Connor).
The Hollywood Reporter says that NBC's "Xena: Warrior Princess" reboot is planned to premiere next year. It remains to be seen whether it will only be limited to 13 episodes or to a complete 24-episode order. It is hoped the retelling of the warrior's stories will be a renewable season.
