Although "X-Men: Apocalypse" is crawling with familiar faces, the highly-anticipated sci-fi flick also brings together a new band of mutants, which fans can now get a good look of in a bunch of new photos Fox recently released courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.
Notably, the new characters are younger versions of the mutants that fans already know and love. Each of these iconic characters will take moviegoers to their pasts as the movie chronicles how they all came to be.
First one is mutant mall baby Jubilee, played by Lana Condor. Entertainment Weekly describes her as a "fashionable student at Charles' school" that has the power to shoot colorful energy bursts. A young Nightcrawler played by Kodi Smit-McPhee in "X-Men: Apocalypse" is a German teleport saved by Raven.
Then there's Jean Grey, played by Sophie Turner. She fears her telekinetic powers, but this very thing is Charles Xavier's cut stone, making her his most treasured student. Cyclops, played by Tye Sheridan, is a bad boy that falls head over heels for the Omega-level telepathic mutant.
Lastly, a younger Storm will be played by Alexandra Shipp. The distressed teen's ability to control the weather is what attracted Apocalypse to take her as one of his Horsemen. Speaking of Apocalypse, he will be the big bad in this film.
Before photos of the younger mutants were released, a separate report from Entertainment Weekly gave fans a good look at the villain for "X-Men: Apocalypse.
It is said that the villain is capable of bringing what his name defines. If destruction had a face, it would be that of Apocalypse, a 5000-year-old blue-skinned mutant, who, as Oscar Isaac describes, a "creative-slash-destructive force of this earth."
"When things start to go awry, or when things seem like they're not moving towards evolution, he destroys those civilizations," he adds.
Apocalypse was on the cover of the EW magazine with Olivia Munn and Michael Fassbender, who play Psylocke and Magneto. Slashfilm noticed that the latter got a snazzier costume too.
Talking to EW, Fassbender revealed how his character has "fallen in love" and "basically left his metal ways behind." Although Magneto retreated to a normal life in Poland, Apocalypse recruits him to become one of his Horsemen along with Psylocke, Storm and Angel.
Slashfilm explains that "X-Men: Apocalypse" is set 10 years after the past events in "X-Men: Days of Future Past." Director Bryan Singer describes to Entertainment Weekly the movie's setting as "a chaotic world of conflict and war and destruction. It's one giant civilization that now requires one giant culling."
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
