The spotlight has always been on the all-gal posse, who are set out to exterminate hostile otherworldly forces with their weird-looking gizmos. There weren't really any discussions as to who will be in charge of the evil side of tomfoolery (other than the rampaging specters) in the upcoming "Ghostbusters" reboot, but that changes today.
According to Deadline, comedic writer and actor, Neil Casey, has landed the big bad role named Rowan. No information is available as far as what evilness his character will be doing in the film. However, Comic Book Resources believes his casting will continue the comedic theme.
Deadline adds that Casey bears a resemblance with actor Peter MacNicol. MacNicol starred in "Ghostbusters II" as Dr. Janosz Poha, who the site describes as a "rather harmless bad guy" working at the Manhattan Museum of Art.
As per io9, Casey is currently working with "Ghostbusters" reboot director, Paul Feig, in his Yahoo Screen series titled "Other Space." Apart from that, Casey will surely be very at home with with his co-stars in the highly anticipated film.
According to Deadline, the actor has starred in "Saturday Night Live" with long-running sketch comedy and variety show alums such as Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, who make up three-fourths of the all new phantom-ensnaring crew. The fourth one is Melissa McCarthy.
Speaking of "The Heat" star, IGN shared a photo of McCarthy donning the new ghost-butt-kicking uniform that was taken on the "Ghostbusters" set. McCarthy worked the outfit with a pair of glasses and black shoes. She wasn't wearing the proton pack here though.
Days before this photo emerged, Feig tweeted a snap of the new get-up hanging on a clothes rack with names of the stars to tell between who gets which. The striking difference of the new costumes from the original was the orange stripes on the former. There are more pockets too.
A separate report by Comic Book Resources states that the all-female "Ghostbusters" is still set in New York although the filming is taking place in Boston.
The film follows McCarthy and Wiig as unknown authors, who try to convince the world that the supernatural exists. At that time, the book was unheard of. After many years, when Wiig's character becomes an esteemed professor in a prestigious university, their work gets all the limelight.
"Thor" actor Chris Hemsworth, as per another report from Deadline, is on board as the male version of Janine Melnitz, secretary to the original ghostbusters.
The all-gal "Ghostbusters" reboot will be out July 22, 2016.
