Amongst writers, Stephen King was one of the early adopters of ebooks when in 2000 his book "Riding the Bullet" was digitally published. But it looks like the love affair has ended and he will go back to publishing his next book the old-fashioned way.  That book, "Joyland" will come out June 2013.

"Joyland" takes place in a North Carolina amusement park where the protaganist Devin Jones has come to work and is forced to deal with the legacy of a murder and a dying child.  Joyland will eventually be published as an ebook.  This is a departure from what King has done in the past when he published his books first as digital books and where he went on to publish chapters of his novel, "The Plant" on his website. In 2000, when "Riding the Bullet" became available digitally, in a matter of two days half a million people had downloaded the book.

Then it seemed that King was making a statement about big publishing companies and went on record saying, "My friends, we have the chance to become Big Publishing's worst nightmare."  No word on the reason behind his current decision to revert to the classical style of book publishing but he did say "folks who want to read it will have to buy the actual book."
