Lit-quake to Lit-crawl NYC

Last Saturday, Brooklyn enjoyed its first ever Lit-crawl. What's a lit-crawl, you ask. Lit-crawl NYC is the predecessor of San francisco's Lit-quake, which debuted in 2002 as a festival of all things books and booze (can't go wrong with that combo).  The idea was the brainchild of writers, jane Ganahl and Jake Boulware who say they realized people wanted something more that just your average run-of-the-mill book reading. They strove then and they continue to strive to bring literary culture to unusual and sometimes even so-called usual venues. The unusual includes a poetry recital in a cathedral or maybe the expected, a Brooklyn bar on Smith Street. Lit-quake has become the largest independent literary festival on the West Coast and from the looks of it, it may have the same effect in New York.

If you're starting to feel sorry that you missed Brooklyn's book party last week, don't fret because there will be another one in Manhattan on September 15 and if you're in or around Austin, Texas, it will be held on October 13.  San Francisco's festival is scheduled for October 27th.  If you're somewhere else in the world, then you're out of luck but as we like to say here, it could inspire you to organize something similar or maybe even see about joining forces with the Lit-crawlers.
