In an announcement made Wednesday, Barnes & Noble revealed that it has included free storytime events and promotions as part of their Black History Month celebrations to be held in February.
According to the announcement, the retailer will celebrate Black History Month with special Storytime events and promotions recognizing the significant contributions by African-Americans to the world's social, political and economic development. Barnes & Noble stores nationwide will host events throughout the month featuring a reading of Henry's Freedom Box and other Black History Month-themed picture books, with booksellers and prominent members of the local African-American community serving as guest storytellers.
"Black History Month Storytime offers children and families a way to celebrate reading and our shared experience of African-American history through stories and fun activities," said Sarah DiFrancesco, Vice President of Business Development for Barnes & Noble in a press statement. "We're also encouraging stores to partner with local organizations to create additional Black History Month programming for adults and families."
In addition, Barnes & Noble stores will highlight the artwork of acclaimed African-American artist LaShun Beal on an exclusive, specially priced signature tote bag, and on signs in stores and graphics available on the company's website. The website will also promote relevant NOOK Books and books for children, teens and adults, CDs and DVDs that honor the Black American experience at great values.
The events are free and open to the public.
