Barnes & Noble announced August 18 that its eBook reader NOOK Simple Touch GlowLight will now be available for purchase at just $99.
Customers can avail the discounted offer at all the 700 Barnes & Noble retail stores nationwide and online through the company's website.
"At just $99, our high-quality, top-rated NOOK Simple Touch GlowLight is an unbeatable value for customers who are seeking an unparalleled, pure reading experience that goes from beach to bed, day or night," said Michael P. Huseby, President, Barnes & Noble, Inc. & CEO, NOOK Media LLC in a press statement. "NOOK Simple Touch GlowLight is the first Reader to hit the market with built-in illumination for reading in the dark and is the perfect way to experience NOOK's best-in-class digital reading experience at an unbelievable price." The device was first released May 2012 and was priced at $139. It is the company's lightest eBook reader and features a revolutionary built-in screen protector offering paper-like reading with no glare, even in bright sunlight. This new drop in price may be an indication that the company is looking to clear its shelves as it prepares to launch the all new NOOK model, which is speculated to make its debut this fall. Earlier in 2013, the company announced that it would be halting further manufacturing of NOOK hardware. This drop in price could mean that the new model may be equipped with a new and better hardware.
