UK Libel Laws Prevent Amanda Knox's Book from Being Published in the Country

The stringent libel laws of the U.K. prevent the publication of Amanda Knox's tell-all book about Meredith Kercher's murder.

The libel laws of the U.K. are so stringent that HarperCollins UK has refrained from publishing Amanda Knox's tell-all book about Meredith Kercher's murder. "Waiting to be Heard" is Knox's narration of the tragic event and will reveal details that have never been bared before, reported The Guardian.

The book is scheduled to be released in the United States, Canada and Australia Tuesday. HarperCollins U.K. was also scheduled to release the book early next month but have announced they won't be doing so, in fear of legal action that could be taken against them.

"Due to our legal system, and relying upon advice from our counsel, HarperCollins UK will not publish a British edition of Waiting to Be Heard, by Amanda Knox, at this time," said a spokesman for HarperCollins U.K..

However, U.K. readers can still buy the book online through Amazon, which describes the book as "a remarkable story of innocence, resilience, and courage".

Apart from being cautious in the U.K., the book publisher are also keeping a close look out for how things go in Italy where police and authorities are suing Knox and her parents for defamation for claims made in the press about how she was treated and her interrogation about the murder.

Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were charged with the sexual assault and murder of Kercher after her body was found in her apartment in a pool of blood November 2, 2007 and the couple was photographed kissing and cuddling outside the scene of the crime.
