After Amazon announced the expansion of its appstore to over 200 countries, experts speculate that a Kindle smartphone may be in the making.
Amazon launched its first appstore March 2011 and since then it has only been extended to six countries including UK, US, Germany, Spain, Italy and France. However, in an announcement made Wednesday, the retail giant announced it plans to expand its appstores to over 200 countries.
"Amazon's platform is a complete end-to-end solution for developers wanting to build, market and monetize their apps and games on Kindle Fire and Android devices," said Mike George, Vice President of Apps and Games at Amazon. "Allowing developers to target distribution of their apps and games in even more international countries is yet another important milestone as we strive to serve consumers and developers globally. Many of our existing developers have localized their apps and games for international consumers, and we look forward to working with new developers that have been waiting to bring their apps to more Amazon customers across the globe."
With the announcement, market experts are predicting that the rampage may be because of the highly rumored Kindle Smartphone, which according to rumors, should be launched soon.
Earlier, the company announced that former windows Phone manager Charlie Kindel had joined the company to work on "something secret" prompting even more speculation that a Kindle smartphone was forthcoming.
Amazon announced the original Kindle Fire and the updated Kindle Fire HD in September of 2011 and 2012 respectively, and is unlikely to change that schedule in 2013, meaning we still have a number of months to wait before we get our hands on the Kindle Smartphone.
