Publishing house HarperCollins has confirmed that Amanda Knox's new trial will not delay the scheduled publication of her book "Waiting to be Heard."
A dramatic change of events in the ongoing court case has hit Amanda Knox hard. The 25-year-old was released in 2011 by an Italian court, on appeal after spending four years in prison for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher in 2007. Now, Italy's Supreme Court has ruled that Knox must be retried for the 2007 murder of her roommate with ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito.
After her release, Knox went on to write a book "Waiting to be Heard", which talks about the four years she spent in jail and will also reveal details surrounding her case that have never been divulged before, said a spokesman of publisher HarperCollins. The publishing house announced last month that the book is scheduled for publication April 30.
With this new turn of events, the publishing house clarified that the scheduled publication day will not be moved forward and the book will be released on the scheduled date.
"The publication is going along as scheduled. She is going ahead with all of the events," said a spokesman for HarperCollins.
The new ruling came as a shock to Knox, her lawyer Carlo Dalla Vedova revealed. She hoped that her six years of nightmare had ended, but this new ruling has left her surprised and sad. However, she said she would bravely continue her legal battle.
Calling the decision "unfair" and "painful", Knox and her family released a statement saying they were shocked to receive the news.
"The prosecution responsible for the many discrepancies in their work must be made to answer for them, for Raffaele's sake, my sake, and most especially for the sake of Meredith's family. Our hearts go out to them," the statement read. "No matter what happens, my family and I will face this continuing legal battle as we always have, confident in the truth and with our heads held high in the face of wrongful accusations and unreasonable adversity."
