Famous actress and TV host Whoopi Goldberg has entered the comics world with her new project, "The Change," about a menopausal superhero.
It was announced on The View on July 9 that Goldberg wrote a new comic book with scriptwriter Jaime Paglia. The book is now out and has drawings by Sunkanmi Akinboye.
The 68-year-old "Color Purple" actress stated in her announcement that she wanted to see herself represented in comic books since she had enjoyed them all her life. Goldberg loved comic books as a child but could not find one that spoke to her. She told her co-hosts about this. So, she wrote her own. Isabel Frost, the main character in "The Change," is based on Goldberg's experiences as she wrote the book while going through menopause.
Isabel is a lady juggling the demands of being a wife, mother, and grandma. Her life drastically changes when she discovers she possesses abilities as she enters menopause.
Goldberg discusses a scene from the book that shows Isabel fighting with her husband, who is bothering her. At this tense moment, Isabel accidentally gives him her heat, "cooking" him. This is an example of her new powers.
Goldberg said that Isabel's role is meant to be different from other superheroes. While she agreed that many superheroes have great chests and bodies, she also said she does not. Instead, she seems like an average person.
Isabel is relatable because she has put on weight and is funny. Goldberg said she had wanted to play the part herself because she had written the character to be a superhero, but she got too old. This comment emphasizes her connection to the character.

"The Change" presents a breakthrough superhero and explores themes of self-discovery and empowerment. According to the official summary, Isabel is a computer science graduate and a huge video game fan. She must learn to control her powers with the help of her funny grandson and her sarcastic best friend. She must also accept her new name, The Change, which is a play on the change of life and her special powers.
Goldberg's move into comic books is big news, especially since the books will be about menopause, a subject that is often ignored. According to a press release from Dark Horse Comics, Goldberg made a new type of character because she has always loved comic books.
The figure could be older, have a bigger body, and breasts that are the same size or bigger. The comic book distributor, whose books include "Hellboy," praised Goldberg for coming up with new ideas.
Besides her work on "The Change," Goldberg gets much attention for being honest about a wide range of social problems. She also wrote her biography, "Bits & Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me." This shows how versatile she is as an author and artist.
"The Change" by Goldberg is sure to hit home with readers who want to see a new kind of hero who is strong, funny, and has the special skills that come with accepting life's changes. Readers can pre-order "The Change" now, which will be out at the end of November.
