Tom Bower uncovers the purported dramatic fallout of the relationship between Prince Harry and David Beckham, with Meghan Markle reportedly at the center of the dispute. Titled "The House of Beckham: Money, Sex and Power," the exposé explores the incidents that triggered the rift and its aftermath.
The book claims that Meghan instructed Harry to snub David during the 2018 Invictus Games, severely impacting David. According to Bower, this marked the beginning of a strained relationship between the Beckhams and Prince Harry after his marriage to Meghan in May 2018.
Six months after the royal wedding, the dynamic between Harry and David allegedly turned brutal at the Invictus Games in Sydney, Australia. David, invited to the event, found himself isolated and kept away from Harry. Per Bower's account, David was puzzled by this treatment, later discovering that Harry had explicitly ordered him to be kept away. The exclusion, Bower claims, was orchestrated by Meghan, who did not want media competition from David or his wife, Victoria.
Four years later, in November 2022, David reportedly retaliated subtly but publicly. While Harry and Meghan were attempting to forge new connections in New York, David attended a prestigious event in Boston celebrating Prince William and Kate. This event, attended by top celebrities and President Biden, effectively overshadowed the Sussexes' presence in New York. Bower suggests that David's presence in Boston was calculated to overshadow Harry and Meghan, serving as his response to the snub in Sydney.

The book also includes several stories about the Sussexes, highlighting tensions between the couples. While engaged to Prince Harry, Meghan allegedly asked Victoria for free clothes and handbags, a request vetoed by Buckingham Palace because it was against the rules.
Bower suggests that the relationship between the two couples was already troubled before the Invictus Games incident. Victoria was reportedly offended that she and David were left out of an invitation to a pre-wedding dinner at which other famous people, such as George Clooney, were present. Additionally, in 2023, David was reportedly "absolutely bloody furious" after accusations that he or Victoria had leaked stories about the Sussexes to the media, leading to a tense phone call between the couples.
According to Daily Mail, Bower suggests that tensions between the Beckhams and the Sussexes escalated when the Beckhams hosted a high-profile celebration in Miami following a crucial victory for David's football team, led by Lionel Messi. Meghan and Harry reportedly did not receive invitations to the event.
Bower alleges that Meghan has distanced herself from Victoria in recent years, implying that Meghan might have been more positively received by the British public had she followed Victoria's example. In September 2023, neither Victoria nor Meghan attended an Inter Miami game despite Meghan being listed as an expected guest. Victoria, known for attending these games with celebrity friends like Kim Kardashian, was also absent on that occasion.
The book explores the Beckhams' personal life, tracing their ascent to celebrity and the creation of their multibillion-dollar brand. It aims to answer questions about their success, personal relationships, and media image management.
Bower, known for his extensive research and expert sourcing, promises surprising insights into the reality of "Brand Beckham." The book will cover the Beckhams' careers in soccer and fashion, their finances, and their new lives in Miami, providing a detailed picture of their journey.
Publisher Adam Humphrey praised Bower's reputation for detailed and illuminating biographies, calling the book a gripping behind-the-scenes look at the lives of the Beckhams. Bower wrote several best-selling books, including "Rebel King" and "Revenge."
