Local mentor Armand King has dedicated over a decade to helping at-risk youth and adults. Recognizing the importance of early intervention, he recently crafted the "Planting Seeds" mentoring coloring book aimed at elementary school-aged boys. He aims to equip youngsters with crucial life lessons before they veer off course. 

Empowering Children With Essential Life Lessons

Reflecting on his turbulent upbringing, King acknowledged the importance of imparting essential life lessons to children. He stressed the need to tackle problems like peer pressure and risky behaviors before they worsen.

Each coloring book page has bold phrases and explanations to help kids make good choices. King wanted to give kids the support he did not have when he was young, helping them handle life's challenges. He also said parents can use the book to discuss tough topics like jail or losing someone. Vincent Stalcup, a parent, commended the book as a practical activity to engage children in meaningful discussions amidst today's digital distractions.

King urged people to start conversations and not wait for children to be in trouble. King launched a Kickstarter fundraiser to produce more copies of the coloring book, embodying his proactive approach to nurturing the next generation.

According to the fundraiser page, the coloring books are carefully crafted for young children, especially those in elementary school and kindergarten. These books are crucial for children at this age, as they are just starting to learn about the world. The coloring books are also meant for youth groups, mentoring programs, and schools. These organizations are critical in children's development and often spot the needs of at-risk kids first.

The coloring books come with easily understandable captions for each illustration. These captions are designed to be engaging and can be read independently by kids or shared with adults like parents, teachers, or mentors. Unlike typical coloring books or motivational materials, "Planting Seeds" dives into real-world challenges like the impact of social media, dealing with loss, and staying away from drugs and violence. It also emphasizes the importance of respecting others and fostering empathy from a young age.

According to his LinkedIn profile, King is currently the program developer and program development director at Walk With Me Impact, a prominent youth mentoring service provider. He is also a co-founder of Paving Great Futures, a non-profit organization helping at-risk youth and adults and those involved in gangs and human trafficking. He has been actively participating in resolving gang and human trafficking problems for more than 20 years.

As the owner of Lawrich Consulting, he provides specialized services to various organizations and sectors, including NGOs, NPOs, law enforcement, and educational institutions. His expertise lies in curriculum and program design, court expertise, and fund development.
