In a recent conversation with PEOPLE at Epic Cons Chicago, 39-year-old actress Torrey DeVitto shared insights into her memorable moments from filming "Pretty Little Liars." Reflecting on those times, DeVitto disclosed how she and her ex-co-star Troian Bellisario developed a strong bond by sharing a passion for literature while working together on the series.
DeVitto fondly remarked on Bellisario's intellect and extensive reading habits, describing her as 'insanely smart and well-read.' She reminisced about the enriching conversations they shared about books and various topics, highlighting how she felt she was constantly learning from Bellisario. DeVitto expressed missing those intellectual exchanges since their time on the show concluded.
DeVitto still enjoys reading much, even after "Pretty Little Liars" ended in 2017. In January, she posted on Instagram her list of 24 books she plans to read or reread this year.
When discussing her relationships with other Pretty Little Liars cast members, DeVitto acknowledged the challenges of maintaining contact, mainly due to geographical distances. Devitto lives full-time in Michigan, making it hard for her to stay in touch with co-stars.
DeVitto mentioned that she stays in touch with Ian Harding more than anyone from the "Pretty Little Liars" cast. They talk regularly, but sometimes months go by without speaking, which she finds sad. She admitted to having phone anxiety, often avoiding calls as if the caller can see her.
DeVitto also shared that Arielle Kebbel is a friend she always enjoys speaking with. Both individuals hail from Winter Park, Florida, their shared hometown. Their acquaintance dates back to DeVitto's adolescence at 12, and they frequently communicate via extended phone calls.

During the panel at Epic Cons Chicago, DeVitto reflected on her character Melissa Hastings and a signature wardrobe piece - a necklace worn throughout the series. She revealed her distress over misplacing the necklace she had kept since the pilot episode. Despite her efforts to locate it, the necklace remains missing. DeVitto shares that the cast received letterman jackets as keepsakes.
DeVitto also touched upon her return to "Chicago Med" for the show's season 8 finale, coinciding with her former co-star Nick Gehlfuss' departure as Dr. Will Halstead. She expressed affection for Gehlfuss, referring to him as a brother and expressing her desire to fulfill the hopes of fans invested in the "Manstead" storyline.
DeVitto explained that her decision to return was primarily motivated by her desire to ensure a happy ending for Will and Natalie, the characters they portrayed. She expressed disappointment with how their romance had ended and saw Gehlfuss' departure as an opportunity to rectify that.
Speaking to PEOPLE in May 2023, Gehlfuss expressed satisfaction with how the writers concluded his story. He described it as a terrific moment that he hoped would provide closure to fans. Gehlfuss appreciated that the finale not only reunited Will and Natalie but also portrayed them as a family with Natalie's son, Owen. He admired Will's willingness to embrace his role as a stepfather, highlighting the significance of the family unit in the final episode.
