Amazon Prime Goes In Canada: E-book Lending And Instant Video Remains Exclusive To U.S

Amazon announced that Amazon Prime is now available in Canada for an annual fee of CAD $79.00 that offers a subscriber free two-days shipping and one-day shipping at $3.99 per item.

Amazon is leaving no stone unturned to increase its global market. After top the list of customer satisfaction for the eighth year in a row, the company now looks to expand its popular membership program to Canada. Today, Amazon announced that Amazon Prime is now available in Canada for an annual fee of CAD $79.00 that offers a subscriber free two-days shipping and one-day shipping at $3.99 per item.

However, two important features that are present in the US version - E-book Lending And Instant Video have not been included in the Canadian deal, in spite of the subscription fee being the same. The US version of the subscription also costs $79 annual but includes the two feature mentioned above.

"We have been working on (it) over the last year and we're very excited to launch," said Steve Oliver, the country manager for Amazon.ca, from the company's Seattle HQ.

Amazon also states that rural areas will have access to the regular free standard shipping and no minimum purchase is required. The company is also offering a one month free trial.

Quebec users however, are not eligible for the one month free trial. However, if they sign up for a 13 month subscription, their first month is free. So, essentially they are also entitled to the one month free trial, only in a different way. Also, users from this region will now have the auto renewal facility for their subscription and would need to login to their account to renew their subscription.

Discounts on electronics, baby, kitchen, books, movies, music, watches, sporting goods, tools, and more will be available to subscribers on the Canadian Amazon website.

However, the company clarifies to the Canadian press that at the moment they have no plans of including the E-book Lending And Instant Video features in the Canadian deal.
