First the Wii U came out, now Nintendo is launching Wii Mini, but only in Canada.
Best Buy Canada revealed the Mini Wii on its website. The retailer said that Nintendo would launch on Dec. 7 with pre-orders starting Nov. 27.
"Touted as 'Big Fun, for a Mini Price,' The Nintendo Wii Mini brings home all the excitement and motion gaming of the original, at a fraction of the size, and price tag," Best Buy's blog post said. "The Wii Mini has been completely re-designed from the base-up, resulting in a smaller console."
The red and black Mini device will cost $99.99 and will with the console, sensor bar, and a Red MotionPlus controller with Nunchuk.
"While the system has no Internet connectivity options or Gamecube support, it features full functionality and compatibility with the Wii's expansive library of over 1,300 games and its associated peripherals, totaling nearly 1 billion games sold," the blog post said. "From the massively popular Mario Kart Wii, to the Legend of Zelda series, the simplified nature of the Wii Mini allows for an easier out-of-the-box gaming experience, and is perfect for those who want to check out the Wii and could not pick up the console before, or a quick addition to a rec or gaming room. If you have a Wii already, a Mini would make a great backup, or travel size companion."
Nintendo seems to be making big strides with its Wii systems, including the new Wii U. According to PC Mag, the U had initial sales of 400,000 because of its pre-Thanksgiving launch. The company's U.S.-based president, Reggie Fils-Aime, said that total national hardware sales reached more than 1.2 million units, including the Wii U, Wii, 3DS, and DS, according to the report.
