Some may have doubts concerning Microsoft's new Windows 8 software, but Windows Phone 8 looks promising. New details emerged for the Windows Phone 8 Nokia Lumia 920.
The website BGR said they confirmed with "multiple sources" that AT&T currently is planning to launch the highly anticipated Lumia 920 on Nov. 11.
"The Lumia 920 will be also be offered in three colors at AT&T retail stores," BGR wrote.
The Lumia 920 appeared on Best Buy last Sunday. However, the phone had been taken down. It was selling for $149.99 with a two-year contract with AT&T, which is $50 cheaper than Apple's iPhone 5. The colors were Black, Cyan, Yellow, White, and Red.
Windows Phone 8 might be the big push that Microsoft needs to convince customers that Windows 8 is the way to go instead of Android and iOS.
The specs of the Windows 8 phone could possible be one of the reason.
The Lumia 920 runs on Microsoft Windows Phone 8. It takes many of the physical design elements from previous generations of Lumia handsets, but improves on internal hardware and display technology. Some of the new tech specs include PureMotion HD+ 4.5 inch display (1280 x 768 resolution), Dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, NFC chip, 2,000mAh battery, and Qi wireless charging. Nokia is touting the Lumia 920′s premier feature as its new camera lens, the Carl Zeiss lens. It has rounded edges and colorful covers with a PureView camera.
Microsft faces big competition in the smartphone industry, including the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, HTC One X+ and Google's new LG Nexus 4 smartphone.
WPSuperFanBoy said that Microsoft will be able to build on iOS and Android's weaknesses.
Apple iOS weakness is that that successful mobile ecosystem is somewhat limited in its offering." Even though they use OS to run aross iPhone, Macintosh and Apple TV, the company's proprietary OS is only available on Apple products, "making it very difficult for users to move away from the brand."
Google's Android operating system, on the other hand, offers an open source network. It enables companies like HTC, Samsung, and Sony to "modify the software depending on the device." Because of this, users are able to "grow their Android collection across several brands allowing them much wider device choice."
However, this is not all fun.
"Concerns about the platform have been raised however, with a number of OS versions serving so many different devices the Google network can be slightly fragmented," the website pointed out.
Microsoft could build on these weaknesses to deliver a balance of both iOS and Android.
"The abundance of new features and restrictive update nature of the platform have been introduced to ensure that users of the Microsoft system, for the first time, whether on a desktop, tablet, games console or smartphone receive the same interface and features," the website said. "integration and has enough hardware to support it then next year we could well see Microsoft work its way up the ranks and into people's homes, handbags and pockets around the world."
Microsoft is also expanding its app store to make customers happier.
According to Tech2, Pratima Amonkar, Director of Audience Marketing with Microsoft, said that the app development ecosystem is really "expanding hugely."
Microsoft has a multi-prong approach; we are committed to provide developers with world class software. Secondly, we are focusing on training the app developers to help prepare them for the explosion that is happening," Amonkar said.
A new report says that the Windows Phone Store now has 125,000 apps, compared to 100,000 apps months before.
Other popular Windows 8 phones are HTC Windows Phone 8X, Samsung ATIV S, and Lumia 820/810.
