Many hot contenders are up to play the role of Christian Grey in the upcoming "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie.
The producers, Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti, have a lot of work on their hands. Fans are flooding their Twitter pages with who should play the lead role, and author E.L. James has a lot of pressure from hard-core "Fifty Shades" fans.
Here at Books & Review, we noticed that three of the biggest fan favorites were vampire actors (from popular vampire shows). Not a surprise, but it's cool to put them all together in a battle for the most popular vampire to play the sexy, 27-year-old BDSM-crazed Christian Grey, who enters a weird relationship with innocent Anastasia Steele.
These three top contenders are "The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder, "True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgard, and "Twilight" actor Robert Pattinson.
Ian Somerhalder, 33
Somerhalder plays Damon on the sexy vampire TV show, and he plays it well. His sex appeal for his character is what drives fans crazy and why many think he should play Christian.
He recently spoke to E! News at the 2012 Environmental Media Awards about the sexual character and audition process, according to the Examiner.
"I think that's going to be a very interesting story to tell...It seems like whoever plays that role, it will be very interesting rehearsal time...the audition process is gonna be interesting," Somerhalder said.
When he is asked who his ideal Anastasia would be, Somerhalder does not give a solid answer. "My Anastasia? I don't know...there are too many [good Hollywood actors] to name."
E! Online reported that James is a big "The Vampire Diaries" fan, but the lead actor would be selected by the studio and they weren't that far along in the casting process.
Being a big "Vampire Diaries" fan is a very good thing to hear for Somerhalder fans. Actually, it was previously reported that the vampire hottie was in talks with producers.
Fans are dying for him to be the one. One commenter said, "Definitely Somerhalder! The way he plays Damon on the Vampire Diaries just makes him perfect for the part. He can do hot and cold easily, those grey eyes, that mischievous smile! He is very good at being cold and dominant whilst also being sensitive and caring at times." Another said, "Only Ian Somerhalder can pull off that look of Christian Grey!"
Robert Pattinson, 26
Pattinson plays the sexy Edward Cullen in all the "Twilight" films. His handsome looks, velvet speech and his protection over Bella (played by Kristen Stewart) is some of the reasons many are drawn to Pattinson to play Christian Grey.
The "Cosmopolis" star was recently named the sexist man for the fourth year on Glamour's list of 50 sexiest men. He's also is in second place in a new Books & Review Christian Grey poll, right behind "True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgard.
Pattinson has been a fan favorite since the beginning. After all, Christian was inspired by his character in the "Twilight" movies, Edward Cullen, so it's natural that Pattinson would be in the running for the lead role as Christian.
Pattinson recently did an interview and talked "Fifty Shades of Grey," written by bestselling authorE.L. James.
When asked if he knew it was based on his character as Edward, he replied, "I think the author has written me out of it. I saw some interview earlier and they went, oh, it could never be him. And I'm like, 'Hey, I'm going to make you pay for that.'"
Is he vying for the role? Is he angry that some think he's not capable to play Christian? Pattinson, 26, has always been a great dodger when it comes to certain questions, not really giving a clear answer.
Pattinson openly admitted in the past that he would lick the pages of "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Pattinson revealed that he's always played weird characters (many will argue that vampires aren't weird), so the part of Christian Grey might not be far from weird.
"I mean every part I played is always kind of like sort of weird. But I don't know, I find kind of random things, the movie I'm doing next, is a real guy, an interrogator and he's not particularly weird or anything, he's just like, he's kind of, well he's a little weird," Pattinson said.
Christian, the 27-year-old sexy BDSM-crazed billionaire, goes through a lot of obstacles and lives in a world that most of us have probably never seen or heard of before. So it might be weird anyway. Who better to play a part like this than an actor who plays weird parts?
One Books & Review commenter said, "I think Robert P. would be an excellent choice to play the role of Christian. Something about his mysterious personality in Twilight reminds me of Christian. Controlling, sweet, sensual, and not to mention his looks; square jaw, blue eyes, hair, body. I think he could really get into character and bring Christian to life on screen."
Alexander Skarsgard, 35
Skarsgard plays Eric Northman in the popular series "True Blood." His brooding looks and grey eyes is how he won over many fans, this why they want him to play Christian Grey.
This actor has been on the list from the beginning. At Comic-Con San Diego 2012, he revealed to fans that he hasn't read the book nor has he been offered a casting part.
Maybe raving fans could change the producer's minds.
Skarsgard is winning a Books & Review poll against five other contenders.
According to TheStir.CafeMom.com, he recently admitted that he would play the much coveted role of Christian Grey.
And when asked about that possibility by ET Canada, Skarsgard responded with, "Of course. It's a great script."
He then said there are "so many variables" when it comes to taking the role and added, "It depends on who's directing it and who's in it." This means that Skarsgard is considering taking the part if offered to him.
"Where do I sign," Skarsgard said, reported by Cafemom.com when "Fifty Shades" talk was in a premature stage. "He's got a sex chamber? My character [Eric Northman] has that on 'True Blood.' He's got a little dungeon. I was born to play that part."
He recently appeared in a short advertisement for Calvin Klein's latest fragrance, "Encounter."
According to Business Insider, the ad was influenced by "Fifty Shades of Grey."
"There's little doubt the new ad wasn't influenced by the latest phenomenon considering how close the short film attempts to mirror elements of James' novel. Even the ad's dark blue and grey tones bear a striking resemblance to the covers of the "50SoG" novels," Business Insider said.
There's even focus of Skarsgard riding up an elevator - an imperative place of interest for the book-to the home shrouded in glass windows.
Gather Entertainment said that Skarsgard "oozed sex appeal" in the ad and that it would be hard to imagine other actors capable of smoldering the way he does.
One commenter said, "I only picture Alexander Skarsgard as Christian. I saw him as it the first time I read it." Another said, "I agree Alexander is the one and only Mr. Grey. He has sexuality and a presence on screen that just comes natural. For me, there is no one else. Give him the script already!" Another said, "Alexander Skarsgrad, has the perfect fit for the role. He could easy be a Dom (of course he could be mine). He is very thing that El.James describes for Christian. I see it every time I read the books."
