iPhone 6S & 6S Plus Release Date & Price: Sim-Less Apple Smartphones to Start From 32GB Storage? [Rumors]

In the past weeks, there emerged contradicting rumors regarding the storage options that will be offered in the latest iPhone iterations. The hottest one hails from Made in China Gadget, who claims that Apple's new iPhone will be the end of the 16GB models.

According to the publication, which cited undisclosed sources allegedly working for Foxconn (Apple's manufacturer based in Taiwan), packaging for the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus do not have stickers that indicate 16GB.

If this report is accurate, the entry level model users will be able to get will be 32GB. Other storage options for the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus reportedly include 64GB and 128GB. This rumor falls nicely in place with what Korea Times reported last month.

The site claims that Apple is working on sealing a deal with Samsung for iPhone 6S and 6S Plus models to put up larger storage spaces. According to Forbes, users with 16GB iPhones only have 13GB for files and apps, with the operating system taking up 3GB.

Just last month, Apple Senior Vice President of Marketing, Phil Schiller, told "Daring Fireball" host John Gruber that 16GB iPhone models are not going anywhere with the lack of space easily to be compensated by iCloud.

"The belief is more and more as we use iCloud services for documents and our photos and videos and music, that perhaps the most price-conscious customers are able to live in an environment where they don't need lots of local storage because these services are lightening the load," Schiller said.

Meanwhile, although Apple will forgo the 16GB flavor for the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, Forbes says it will likely make it available to the iPhone 6c, which ought to be a successor to the iPhone 5c and is touted to serve as a budget-friendly, plastic-clad version of the flagship.

That said, it remains to be seen what storage option the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will start with. Users won't know until Apple itself releases the device presumably in September, the same month the Cupertino-based company chooses to release new iPhones.

As for the rest of the specs, ZDNet reports that the upcoming iPhones will have Force Touch, a feature that was first seen in the Apple Watch that designates different functions based on the user's touch pressure.

The site adds that the battery life will be improved, the primary camera will be boosted from 8MP to 13MP and there might be no SIM cards needed to use the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. Whether or not these stellar specs are accurate, only time will tell.
