The all-female "Ghostbusters" reboot will show a very familiar individual that's good at kicking bad ghosts' butts too. Dan Akroyd a.k.a. the legendary Ray Stantz, will make a cameo appearance in the upcoming film. The actor broke the exciting news via his Twitter account.
Unfortunately, that tweet is now gone. Thankfully, media outlets are quick to get a screenshot of it. CNET notes that in the tweet, Akroyd said that he was filming a scene with Kristen Wiig, who he called "funny" and "beautiful." He then proceeded to admire how "adorable, hilarious and badass" the gals are.
To make sure that Akroyd really is showing up in the "Ghostbusters" reboot, Entertainment Weekly contacted his reps, who, in turn, confirmed that the original ghostbuster will be in the new version of the iconic franchise that started with him, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis.
According to AV Club, Akroyd's involvement in the film was meant to be a secret, adding that the actor won't play Ray Stantz in the film but a cab driver who gets to drive for Wiig's character. According to the publication, part of his dialogue will be a major nod to the Ray Parker-directed film.
Meanwhile, Indie Revolver cited another theory (also claiming Akroyd will be a cabbie) saying that Wiig's character will hail Akroyd's cab but drives away saying "I ain't afraid of no ghosts." Wiig yells back saying, "That's a double negative! That means you are afraid of ghosts!"
Wiig stars with Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon in the "Ghostbusters" reboot. Just recently, director Paul Feig shared via his Twitter account a photo of the whole crew looking fierce and ready to seal in their proton packs some rampaging phantoms in New York City.
The photo showed the girls posing fiercely in front of their trusty ghost-busting car as they sported the new gear, the slightly tweaked uniform and stern, serious faces that attempt to drive the ghosts away even without the use of their proton packs.

Other cast members in the "Ghostbusters" reboot, according to Comingsoon, includes Chris Hemsworth as the all-gal posse's new secretary, Andy Garcia as the mayor of New York City and Michael K. Williams as someone named Hawkins.
The site adds that Matt Walsh will play a character named Rourke while NY1 news anchor Pat Kiernan will play as himself in the film. As reported by Books N Review, Neil Casey will play the unnamed big bad in the film.
The "Ghostbusters" reboot will be out July 22, 2016.
