Everybody knows the story of Aladdin and his magic lamp, but the genie inside it also has his own tale. A prequel to the "Aladdin" film called "Genies" is being developed by Disney, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
According to the report, "Genies" will be a prequel for a live-action movie of "Alladin."
"Aladdin" a 1992 classic Disney film, is based on an ancient Arabic story about a street commoner and his monkey. Aladdin's life changes when he meets Jasmine, a Muslim princess who always wonders about life outside the palace. Also, Aladdin first discovered the genie when he rubbed the magic lamp.
Aladdin also became fond of his fun companion, that when it was time to grant his third wish, he wished for the genie's freedom.
The film became well-known for its magic carpet scene and the remarkable song, "A Whole New World." In the classic film, the genie was voiced by Robin Williams.
The prequel centers on how the big blue shape-shifting genie ended up locked in the magic lamp.
Damian Shannon and Mark Swift will be writing the comedy adventure. Both have started writing for horror movies ("Freddy vs. Jason"), but have since then shifted to comedy. Tripp Vinson will produce it via Vinsons Films.
Several classic Disney films have already made it big theaters.
In 2010, the 1951 classic "Alice in Wonderland" was remade into a live-action movie directed by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway.
For some, a simple reboot is not always that appealing, and the big twists in stories are what makes them worth hearing again. The film "Maleficent" was a remake of the 1959 classic "Sleeping Beauty." However, the story was told in the perspective of the fairy tale villain, Maleficent.
Meanwhile, more live-action films are also in the works.
Recently, the world of Prince Charming will be put into the limelight through a live-action film, The Guardian reports. The story, known as a "revisionist take on fairy tales," is told in the point of view of the Prince Charming's unlucky brother that nobody notices.
Matt Fogel, who wrote the screenplay for "Big Momma: Like Father Like Son," will write the script.
Moreover, Tim Burton may soon create another hit film. According to The Wall Street Journal, Burton is reported to be directing the story of Disney's young circus elephant who can fly, "Dumbo."
A badass Disney princess and a fairy are also coming to the big screen. Reese Witherspoon, according to a report from People, will star and produce a live-action film for "Tinkerbell." On the other hand, as per The Holywood Reporter, the story of the famous Disney princess from the Orient, Mulan, is also in the works.
