Disney is taking a break from evening gowns and glass shoes. This time, the company has closed a deal for a live-action film about centered in the world of Prince Charming as told from the point of view of his unlucky brother, The Guardian reports.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Fogel, who wrote the screenplay for "Big Momma: Like Father Like Son," has written the script. David Hoberman, Mandeville Films' Todd Lieberman and Tripp Vinson are producing. Alex Young of Mandeville Films is going to be executive producer.
According to the same report, the script is "a revisionist take on fairy tales".
Princes usually appear at the end of fairytale stories, when the plot is about to reach its happily ever after. However, this film is not going to show the world of the prince known as the princess' hero. It will be told in the perspective of the younger brother, the unlucky prince overshadowed by Prince Charming.
The previous live-action reboot of the "Cinderella" fairytale was reported to arrive on September 10 on Blu-ray, Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere.
The film, directed by Kenneth Branagh, was released in March 2015 starring Lily James, Richard Madden and Helena Bonham Carter.
The trend with animation-turned-live-action films started with two notable successes, The Independent reports.
The first is Tim Burton's adaptation of the 1951 animated film, "Alice in Wonderland". The film came out in 2010 and made billion dollars worldwide.
Another successful live-action film, "Maleficent," recounts the story of Sleeping Beauty from the antagonist's perspective.
Recently, another classic fairytale story has also been reported to be made into a live-action film.
In another report, The Holywood Reporter revealed that Robert Downey Jr. is teaming up with Warner Bros. to turn "Pinocchio" into a live-action movie. Paul Thomas Anderson is reported to be writing a draft for the upcoming movie.
Several Disney stories are going to become live-action films.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Tim Burton is going to be the directing another live-action film, "Dumbo." It is going to be a combination of live action and special effects, telling the story of a circus elephant who learns to fly.
The animated classic, "Mulan," is also coming to the big screen, Entertainment Weekly reports. Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek are writing the story. Chris Bender and J.C. Spink are going to produce, but the project is still developing.
Moreover, Reese Witherspoon is going to star in a live-action film adaptation of the animated "Tinker Bell," People reports. The previous live-action Tinkerbell was portrayed by Julia Roberts in 1991.
