George RR Martin, the author of "Games of Thrones" has unveiled the cover of his new book "World of Ice and Fire" on his blog.
The author describes his upcoming book as a "gorgeous book, a big coffee table volume with lots and lots of stunning artwork, and tons of fake history."
"We were supposed to provide 50,000 words of text, but... ah... I got carried away," the author said.
The book has been co-authored by Elio M Garcia Jr. and Linda Antonsson, who run the Game of Thrones fan site.
"World of Ice and Fire" is slated for a release in late October. Rumored to be over 300 pages long, the book will likely include new information and background on the various regions in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga as well as the Lannisters and Targaryens.
"A Song of Ice and Fire" is Martin's epic fantasy saga, spanning thousands of pages, which captured the imagination of millions and inspired the HBO hit show 'Game of Thrones'.
However, the release of the new book to accompany the series may well push back the publish date of Martin's hotly-anticipated sixth book, "The Winds of Winter." The 65-year-old has come under fire in the past for his tendency to get sidetracked by other work instead of finishing the Ice and Fire series.
The first three novels - "A Game of Thrones", "A Clash of Kings" and "A Storm of Swords" - were all published between 1996 and 2000, while "A Feast for Crows" and "A Dance with Dragons" were released in 2005 and 2011 respectively.
"The Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring" are expected to complete the epic saga.
