Charlie Hunnam has confirmed that he will not be playing the role of Christian Grey in the movie version of blockbuster erotic novel "Fifty Shades of Grey." According to current votes Ian Somerhalder is the new fan favorite for the lead role.
Seems like the heat around the casting for the movie adaptation of E.L James' novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey" does not have an end.
Many actors and actresses were rumoured to play lead roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the film. For months, Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder remained fans' favorites to play the male protagonist in the film while Alexis Bledel and Michelle Trachtenberg were the hot potentials for the role of Anastasia Steele.
Much to everyone's disappointment, James announced earlier in September that Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson have been roped in to play the lead roles in the film. Fans voiced their anger and disappointment through Twitter and even started a petition demanding a re-cast and forcing both stars to reconsider their decision to be part of the film.
Studio executives have confirmed that Johnson is still a part of the film and they couldn't be happier with their decision. In fact, re-casting for Christian Grey will be based on who shares the best chemistry with her. "Dakota earned the role and she shouldn't be worried right now. The only time she will have to worry, if at all, is if they hire someone that has no chemistry with her," a source told HollywoodLife. "But they are casting the actor with her in mind." Fans who were left disappointed with the earlier casting news immediately took to the Internet to start voting for who they felt should replace Hunnam with. According to votes this week, "Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder tops the list of sexy hunks, people want to see play Christian Grey.
