Barnes and Noble announced that all its stores, nationwide, will be hosting "The Day the Crayons Quit" - a storytime event, July 22.
During the event all children aged 3-7 will have the opportunity to go through author Drew Daywalt's picture book with illustrations by New York Times bestseller Oliver Jeffers, the creator of "Stuck" and "This Moose Belongs to Me."
Story books will be read aloud and children can participate in many other exciting events.
"Crayons have feelings, too, in this funny back-to-school story," said Sarah DiFrancesco, Director of Business Development for Barnes & Noble. "We're excited to offer this fun Storytime with creative activities on a weekday morning, a departure from our normal weekend Storytimes, since many children will be out of school and parents will be looking for fun and educational activities for them during the week."
Parents and their children will also get the opportunity to explore numerous creative apps on e-book readers, NOOK HD and NOOK HD Plus. With Google Play now available on Nook HD and Nook HD+ devices, users have access to over 750,000 apps, a large jump from the 10,000 available before Google Play was introduced on the device.
Barnes & Noble hopes to improve sales and loyalty of its customers by introducing Google Play on its devices. The NOOK HD is available for $200 and NOOK HD+ for $279.
Ever since the NOOK was launched in 2009, it has constantly been compared with Amazon's Kindle device and according to the 2012 sale figures; the former lost the battle by a huge margin.
