Books-A-Million Inc, owner of the second largest U.S. bookstore chain has revealed its plans to enter into the print-on-demand business and will be installing the Espresso Book Machine from On Demand Books.

Books-A-Million, popularly known as 'BAM!' is the owner of the second largest U.S. bookstore chain and has over 200 stores across the country. The company is now looking to enter into the print-on-demand business and revealed its plans to install two Espresso Book Machines from On Demand Books in its stores. The first one is to be installed in its Portland, Maine store and the location of the second EBM is yet to be announced.

"We are excited to be utilizing the EBM," said BAM CEO Terry Finley. "This offering means something special for BAM customers, who will now have access to a virtual inventory of seven million titles. Our customers will also be able to print their self-published works or any user-generated content in a matter of minutes and pick it up in our store."

The Espresso Book Machine is known to produce quality paperbacks with color covers in any standard trim size. The content of books is fed into the machine via On Demand Books' digital titles.

The titles are available through partnerships with Lightning Source, Google, HarperCollins, Hachette, and others. Some content from publishers like Random House, W.W. Norton, and Simon & Schuster will also available for print on these machines.

"ODB is delighted that the Espresso will be installed at Books-A-Million's Portland store and to partner with a premier leader in the industry," said Dane Neller, CEO of On Demand Books. "With the Espresso, Books-A-Million will be able to provide a self and custom publishing center, as well as add a catalogue of over seven million titles to its current book offering."

The company has its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. As of 2010, the company employs 5,500 individuals.
