Former model Maya Henry surprised her Instagram followers on February 29 by revealing the cover of her new novel, "Looking Forward." Inspired by personal experiences, particularly her relationship with former One Direction singer Liam Payne, the book offers a departure from her usual content.
The novel centers around Mallory, a budding model who becomes infatuated with a charming British pop star named Oliver. It follows Mallory's whirlwind romance with Oliver and her subsequent heartbreak as their once-idyllic relationship falls apart due to his career struggles.
An excerpt obtained by Cosmopolitan Magazine depicts Mallory standing on the tarmac, reflecting on her upcoming journey to a new city in search of a fresh start. Amidst the mix of cherished and painful memories from her turbulent relationship with Oliver, Mallory acknowledges that she is embarking on a voyage of self-discovery and healing.
Despite facing challenges, the idea of starting anew and the realization that life does not always unfold as expected bring comfort to Mallory, easing her fears and worries. Heading toward New York City, Mallory embraces the uncertainties of the future, understanding that there is always room for personal growth, new adventures, and, perhaps, love once more.
Some fans may have thought Henry's book would be a romantic story about her relationship with Payne. However, it includes warnings about serious topics like abortion, abuse, violence, self-harm, substance abuse, and eating disorders. Henry stressed that while the narrative is fictional, it is rooted in genuine emotions and experiences, intending to amplify women's voices.

Born and raised in Texas, Henry recounted her glamorous yet turbulent love story with Payne, marked by moments of happiness and adversity. Despite their engagement and public image, Henry reflected on her naivety and the complexities of their relationship, influenced by their eight-year age gap and her lack of experience.
While the book is fictional, Maya emphasized that it draws from her own experiences. She did not accuse Liam of abuse but hinted at other issues. In the book, the protagonist faces pressure to have an abortion and is threatened with a breakup. Maya hinted she faced a similar situation in real life with a partner. She reflected on the difficult decisions she had to make and acknowledged that everything happens for a reason.
The book candidly addresses issues like substance abuse and violence, echoing Payne's public struggles with addiction. Despite forgiving many things during her relationship, Henry eventually realized its toxicity and ended it for good in 2022.
Henry reminisced about Liam, describing him as initially 'charming and sweet.' Their relationship was often compared to a fairytale or movie by others. Reflecting on their age gap, Maya admitted to feeling naive in her first adult relationship. She forgave a lot of problems due to her love for him. She explained that when you deeply love someone, you often overlook their faults.
Over time, she became desensitized to the issues until she realized she deserved better and ended the relationship. She did not specify what led to the breakup but mentioned feeling disrespected and reaching her breaking point.
Henry aspired for her book to connect with those encountering similar struggles. She intended to use her writing to initiate dialogues on challenging issues, encouraging women to voice their experiences and seek assistance.
Now a student at New York University studying creative writing, Henry looked forward to continuing her writing journey. While uncertain if Payne would read her book, she remained proud of her work and hoped it would encourage others to share their stories and seek help.
