"Fifty Shades of Grey" is inspiring millions, dominating the media, Bestseller lists, lives, and bedrooms the world over, but it's likely author E.L. James would rather avoid taking credit for her most recent press write-up.
As the New York Post reports today, a "Fifty Shades of Grey"-styled BDSM relationship between a 53-year-old Ivy-league graduate investment banker and his 27-year-old live-in slave recently turned quite a few shades darker than James' novels, culminating in a barrage of 40 text messages, a "knock-down, drag-out fight" and an arrest. Sounds like someone forgot the safe-word.
The New York Post writes:
"The submissive [Frankie] Santiago exploded in a fit of rage, law-enforcement sources said, allegedly shattering Sonderling's car windshield and bombarding him with dozens of text threats. [...]
Santiago - who is known in the bondage-domination S&M community as Althea Lyn - was arrested Monday after what sources said was a knock-down, drag-out fight with [Edward] Sonderling at the East 57th Street apartment where she once did his daily bidding.
Shedding her submissive role, Santiago confronted Sonderling in his apartment on July 29. At one point, she pulled a kitchen knife and threatened to kill herself, the sources said.
Whipped into a frenzy after discovering airline tickets for Sonderling's new partner at the apartment, Santiago called JetBlue posing as his current girlfriend and canceled the reservation, sources said.
She also allegedly opened an e-mail account in the investment banker's name, bombarding her replacement with messages disparaging Sonderling.
From July 30 to Aug. 11, Santiago sent 40 texts to Sonderling, according to the criminal complaint.
'I hope you and [the new girl] rot in hell," she fumed. 'I hope karma gets both of you, you rotten piece of s--t.'
And, in a shot toward Sonderling's elderly mom, Santiago raged, 'I hope your mother croaks at the sight of another one of your sluts.'"
Santiago had acted as Sonderling's "slave" for three years ("Basically, she was there to serve his sexual needs," a source told the Post "She's his toy, his fetish slave."), until she discovered he'd been seeing someone else.
Clearly, relationships are hard work. Even for kinkster Wall St. playboys. Sonderling, a Brown and Horace Mann graduate and CEO of his own investment firm, Priority Investors LLC, refused to comment, and Santiago didn't respond to reporters. We wish him the best of luck in finding a new playmate.
