Over 6,000 frenzied "Twilight" fans sat in Hall H for the "Breaking Dawn Part 2" panel at Comic-Con 2012 San Diego. They knew they were getting a surprise from Stephanie Meyer about her latest film adaption from the "Twilight" series, but they didn't expect sneak peeks of the upcoming movie "The Host," which is based on Meyer's novel.
"The Host," which will be directed by Andrew Niccol, is about the "survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed. When Melanie (Saoirse Ronan), one of the few remaining "wild" humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories," according to its description on Facebook.
"But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love."
According to MTV News, the clips were presented partially in 3-D. The clips showed how Melanie (Ronan) tries to evade capture by a Soul, but she doesn't succeed. Another clip shows how Wanderer and Melanie communicate in the one body.
"Ronan navigates the two characters with ease, and it looks like she's going to give a phenomenal performance in the movie," reported MTV. There was also an interrogation scene which offered some background into Melanie's scene. But the last scene was the most interesting.
"It showed two surviving humans in a truck trying to evade capture by Souls who were chasing them while Jared and fellow rebel Ian, played by Jake Abel, looked on from afar," MTV reported. "Finally, the Souls manage to corner the humans with their helicopters and futuristic police cars, and the two humans choose to commit suicide by crashing their truck into a wall instead of submitting to the aliens that have taken over the human race."
It seems like "Breaking Dawn" fans won't have to say goodbye to favorite "Twilight" writer Stephenie Meyer after all.
"The Host" is set to release in theaters May 29, 2013.
