Xenophilius Lovegood was the one that told millions through "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the last book in the bestselling series, the Tale of the Three Brothers, which not one fan could ever put out of their mind. Some may even feel that it was him destined to share the story and was always him. Apparently, this isn't the case.
Evanna Lynch, better known to Potterheads as the lovably eccentric Luna Lovegood, has revealed in a stopover at the Oz Comic Con in Sydney, Australia that author JK Rowling was thinking of having Newt Scamander's grandson Rolf aka the actress' character's future husband, tell the tale in "Deathly Hallows."
Thanks to her character's association with Rolf, who never appeared in the "Harry Potter" books, Lynch and Rowling kept in touch while the former filmed "Order of the Phoenix" and the latter focused on finishing up "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
According to SnitchSeeker.com, Lynch revealed how long and hard it was for Rowling to make up her mind about bringing Rolf in the book. The actress shared that at one time, Rowling decides that Rolf will be in and the next time, she will tell her he is out. This went on for quite a while.
Eventually, the bestselling writer decided to choose Luna's father Xenophilius recount the Tale of the Three Brothers in the book instead of Rolf. In the movies, it was Hermione (Emma Watson) who recited the story as the Lovegood patriarch stood next to her.
It wasn't revealed why Rowling was torn between Rolf and Xenophilius although Hypable thinks the author was thinking about introducing Rolf as Luna's would-be spouse, which could be the reason she wanted to include him in the last book.
As per the aforementioned publication, Rowling also might have thought it confusing to have such important part of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" be on the shoulders of a character readers never knew in the six preceding volumes.
Although Rolf and Luna's eventual marriage wasn't foreshadowed, the interviews that followed after the release of the books and the movie served as the source of details about Rolf's past and future.
Should Rowling decide to give the character a silver screen counterpart, there might be a place for him in the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" trilogy, where the adventures of his granddad, the magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) will be retold.
