Whitney Houston's death has made the remake of the 1976 film, "Sparkle" into a movie that many are excited to see when it comes out at the end of the summer. Now Simon and Schuster is going to bank on that popularity by turning the movie into a book. The Hollywood Reporter said that the a deal was made about six weeks ago and the book will be released on August 7, 10 days before the movie opens.
According to the producer of the movie, Howard Rosenman, Whitney Houston was very inspired by the movie as a teenager. "Houston was influenced by the original movie as a girl and once went to see it every day for a week when she was a teenager. It apparently helped plant the dream in her to become a singer. When the new version was coming together, Rosenman brought up the idea to her of playing the girls' mother -- and she loved it. She has two musical numbers in the film and on the soundtrack."
Mara Brock Akil and Salim Aki, the husband and wife film directing team, are behind the movie. It is rumored that they had a lot of pressure from Sony after Whitney Houston's death to make changes to the movie but they were already near the final cut so the movie genrally stayed the same as it was before Houston's death.
The movie tells the story of a young women and her two sisters struggling to become singing stars while dealing with their family issues .Apart from Houston, the movie stars Jordin Sparks, Derek Luke and Mike Epps to name a few star.
Rosenman has said of the movie and Houston's role in it, "People will be blown away by Whitney. She sings gospel, and she's phenomenal...And believe me, we didn't need this publicity. I'd rather have her back now."
