There was a bounty of details that came out of "The Vampire Diaries" panel in San Diego Comic-Con. The stars of the series, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Candice Accola, Kat Graham and Michael Malarkey, were all there to drop some spoilers along with the show creator, Julie Plec, and executive producer, Caroline Dries.
Here are some juicy spoilers to gobble before the return of the long-running supernatural series for its seventh season.
1. In the words of Somerhalder himself, the old, "sexy, volatile, fun, dangerous" Damon is back
It was always teased that life without Elena meant for Damon to go bad again. This is what was reiterated in the convention, with Plec reminding the audience of "the challenge" Elena had for her beloved: "Please live your life and be who you are."
"But we know who Damon is. So for him, it's 'Who am I without this girl right by my side?'" Plec adds via TV Line. She then teased that in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7, "we're going to see a lot of naughty Damon trying not to be naughty."
Also, Plec reveals via Entertainment Weekly, that his reversion also allowed writers to "dig a little deeper into the character and [see] what makes him tick."
2. Big bad is made even bigger and badder.
According to TV Line, Dries says that writers always make it a point to have newer villains much more sinister than the ones that came before them. This means that Kai, who she described as "one of the best villains in the show," won't be as evil as the baddie(s) coming in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7.
"By bringing in Lily's family, it's these six villains who can do magic - and they're vampires. It's going to be exciting and gruesome and violent," Dries teases the audience.
Entertainment Weekly further quotes her saying, "It's the first time we see our characters try and go up against them [and they don't know what they're doing]."
Through this, the mystery on how Mystic Falls "get to be the way we saw it at the end of season six" will also be delved into. Plec also adds, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, that "nasty, nasty, nasty girls" are coming in the name of trouble.
3. Enzo's alliance is still in question.
"I love the fact that there's a succinct dilemma this season [for Enzo]," Malarkey, who plays the character, teased as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. "Does he go with Lily and the heretics, or does he go with Damon?" The same question is being asked by fans, who, unfortunately, won't know the answer until "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 airs.
4. Spotlight on Steroline
During the Comic-Con panel, Wesley, Somerhalder and Accola joked about how the pairing sounded like a hand sanitizer or a cure for a disease (as reported by TV.com).
But kidding aside, Plec tells the audience that this pairing is in for some "unexpected twist and turns". She teased the audience by saying that Steroline is "just getting cemented in their romantic status," TV Line reports.
"She's trying really hard not to be ready." Plec adds. In the middle of all that, fans should brace themselves for some "shirtless stuff."
5. Bonnie and Damon's friendship is stronger than ever.
"I think the beginning of season six with Bonnie and Damon was the best stuff ever," Somerhalder said via The Hollywood Reporter, adding that the two characters' love and hate for each other adds to the drama.
Graham, who plays Bonnie, admires how Elena's exit was still made to "keep her presence there," describing how this "creates an interesting dynamic" for her and Damon in the new season.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 airs October 8.
